CONFINED SPACE
ENTRY TRAINING
ONTARIO

Get your team fully trained and legally compliant before your next MOL inspection. Entry supervisors, entrants, and attendants — all roles covered. Same-week booking available.

O. Reg. 632/05 compliant
10,000+ workers trained
15+ years experience
On-site delivery available

Confined space incidents are among the deadliest workplace events in Ontario. MOL inspectors are actively auditing confined space programs across industrial and construction sites. A missing or inadequate entry program can result in an immediate stop-work order.

Per-worker and team pricing available. Most clients recover the cost of training many times over by avoiding a single MOL-ordered work stoppage or incident investigation.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR
PROGRAM ISN'T UP TO STANDARD

MOL Stop-Work Orders

An MOL inspector finding workers entering confined spaces without proper training or a written entry program issues an immediate stop-work order. Project downtime can cost tens of thousands per day in lost productivity and contract penalties.

Fines Up to $100,000

Under the OHSA, violations of O. Reg. 632/05 — including missing entry programs, untrained workers, or no attendant on duty — carry fines up to $100,000 per offence. Supervisors and directors can face personal liability.

Fatality Risk Is Real

Confined space incidents have a disproportionately high fatality rate. Atmospheric hazards, engulfment, and entrapment kill workers every year in Ontario — often because rescue procedures weren't in place before entry.

Criminal Negligence Exposure

When a confined space fatality occurs and the employer had no proper program, criminal negligence charges under Bill C-45 have been successfully pursued. Directors and owners have faced personal criminal liability.

WHAT YOUR TEAM
LEARNS AND IS TESTED ON

Our training covers every requirement under O. Reg. 632/05 — entry supervisors, entrants, and attendants each receive role-specific instruction delivered by trainers with real industrial experience.

01
Confined Space Identification

What constitutes a confined space under Ontario law. How to identify, classify, and assess spaces at your specific worksite — tanks, vaults, manholes, silos, tunnels, and more.

02
Atmospheric Testing & Hazard Assessment

Understanding oxygen deficiency, flammable gases, and toxic atmospheres. Proper use of gas detection equipment, pre-entry testing procedures, and continuous monitoring requirements.

03
Written Entry Program Requirements

What O. Reg. 632/05 requires in your written program. Entry permits, hazard controls, communication procedures, and documentation that satisfies an MOL audit.

04
Roles: Supervisor, Entrant & Attendant

Specific duties and responsibilities for each role under the regulation. Who can authorize entry, attendant protocols, communication requirements, and when to abort entry.

05
Rescue Planning & Emergency Procedures

Non-entry rescue methods, rescue team requirements, and emergency response planning. What must be in place before any worker enters — and why most rescues turn into body recoveries without it.

06
Practical & Written Assessment

Hands-on practical exercises combined with a written assessment. Certificates issued same day upon successful completion for all trained roles.

REQUIRED FOR ANY WORKER
WHO ENTERS A CONFINED SPACE

Under O. Reg. 632/05, any employer whose workers may enter a confined space must have a written program and trained personnel in each required role before entry begins.

Industrial & Manufacturing

Facilities with tanks, vessels, silos, hoppers, or process equipment where workers perform maintenance, cleaning, or inspection inside enclosed spaces.

Utilities & Municipal

Water, wastewater, and utilities workers entering manholes, wet wells, valve chambers, and underground vaults — all classified as confined spaces under Ontario law.

Construction & Civil

Excavations, tunnels, caissons, and underground structures on construction sites. Any worker entering these spaces requires training regardless of project size.

Entry Supervisors

Supervisors who authorize confined space entry must be trained to identify hazards, review entry permits, and ensure all pre-entry requirements are satisfied before work begins.

Attendants

The attendant stationed outside a confined space must be trained in their specific duties — communication, hazard monitoring, rescue initiation, and when to call for help.

New Hires & Renewals

Any worker assigned to a confined space role for the first time, or whose training requires a refresh following an incident, process change, or employer request.

ANSWERS BEFORE
YOU CALL

What regulation governs confined space training in Ontario?

Ontario Regulation 632/05 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) sets out all requirements for confined space programs, including training for entry supervisors, entrants, and attendants. Our training covers every requirement in this regulation.

Do all three roles — supervisor, entrant, and attendant — need to be trained separately?

Yes. Each role has distinct duties and responsibilities under O. Reg. 632/05. Our training addresses all three roles and can be delivered together in a combined session or separately depending on your team's needs. We'll discuss the best format during our call.

Can you come to our facility or job site?

Yes. On-site delivery is available across the GTA and Ontario — particularly valuable for larger teams or facilities where training workers in their actual confined spaces improves retention and relevance. Contact us to discuss logistics.

How quickly can we get booked?

Most groups can be scheduled within 48–72 hours. If you have an urgent MOL inspection deadline or a project start date, call us directly at (416) 252-7233 and we'll do everything possible to accommodate same-week scheduling.

Does our company also need a written confined space entry program?

Yes — O. Reg. 632/05 requires a written confined space program before any entry occurs. Training alone is not sufficient. Cortech Safety can also assist with developing your written entry program, entry permits, and hazard assessment documentation. Ask us about this during your consultation.

How often does confined space training need to be renewed?

The regulation does not specify a fixed renewal interval, but training must be current, relevant, and reflective of actual site conditions. Employers are expected to retrain workers following incidents, significant changes in work procedures, or when a supervisor identifies gaps. Annual refresher training is common best practice.
